Sequel Will Focus on Pandora’s Ocean

April 24th, 2010

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, James Cameron revealed that he wants to explore more of the Alpha Centuri AB star system in the movies, but that the second film will still be on Pandora and will explore the moon’s ocean.

He said that they “will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative” as the rainforests we saw in the first movie, and that we will still see more of those as well. If Cameron wants to expand further into the star system, I think we can guarantee the return of the RDA in future movies.

Call it Na’vi, Not Avatar 2: Cameron

March 3rd, 2010

James Cameron talked a little about Avatar 2 at the Visual Effects Society Awards, and the most important thing he said was actually that we shouldn’t be referring to it as Avatar 2, but instead as Na’vi. His reasoning was that at the end of Avatar, Jake is now longer an avatar; he becomes a Na’vi.

In terms of the story, Cameron said the sequel will have a greater focus on Na’vi culture and spirituality. Since audiences have flocked to the film, he believes they’re more open to those things after having them introduced in the first film.

A deal hasn’t yet been completed for Cameron to direct the second film, but he made clear that it would be no one but him. He isn’t ready to hand it over to a different director, at least not at this point in the series.

Avatar 2 To Be War Movie, Released in 4 Years?

February 4th, 2010

MarketSaw, the blog that first reported that the sequel would not take place on Pandora, has reportedly received more information about Avatar 2 from an exclusive source.

The site says that they’ve been told that Cameron is preparing to make the sequel, but that work hasn’t officially begun yet. Avatar 2 will be a complete war, but will not take place on Pandora. We expect it will be on another of Polyphemus’ moons, but aren’t sure.

Four years is the timeline being given by the source, which would make sense, especially is Cameron does that small movie in Australia in a few weeks.
