Sequel Will Focus on Pandora’s Ocean

April 24th, 2010

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, James Cameron revealed that he wants to explore more of the Alpha Centuri AB star system in the movies, but that the second film will still be on Pandora and will explore the moon’s ocean.

He said that they “will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative” as the rainforests we saw in the first movie, and that we will still see more of those as well. If Cameron wants to expand further into the star system, I think we can guarantee the return of the RDA in future movies.

“We’re Going To Do Avatar 3, 4, & 5″

March 24th, 2010

While speaking to Access Hollywood, Sam Worthington said he’s starting to think that Avatar 3, 4, and 5 will end up being made. He said he’s signed a contract for a couple sequels, but James Cameron will need a challenge if he decides to go ahead with more sequels.

Cameron has already confirmed there will be at least one sequel, and that he hopes to make two.

Call it Na’vi, Not Avatar 2: Cameron

March 3rd, 2010

James Cameron talked a little about Avatar 2 at the Visual Effects Society Awards, and the most important thing he said was actually that we shouldn’t be referring to it as Avatar 2, but instead as Na’vi. His reasoning was that at the end of Avatar, Jake is now longer an avatar; he becomes a Na’vi.

In terms of the story, Cameron said the sequel will have a greater focus on Na’vi culture and spirituality. Since audiences have flocked to the film, he believes they’re more open to those things after having them introduced in the first film.

A deal hasn’t yet been completed for Cameron to direct the second film, but he made clear that it would be no one but him. He isn’t ready to hand it over to a different director, at least not at this point in the series.

Weaver Says Grace Will Return in Sequel

February 28th, 2010

Sigourney Weaver was on France’s Le Grand Journal earlier this week where she was asked about the plans for Avatar 2.

Even though her character, Grace Augustine, died near the end of the first Avatar movie, Weaver said she’s talked to James Cameron, and that he wants for Grace to return to keep the family together.

Weaver said that Grace is currently inside of “the tree”, or Eywa, but she isn’t sure how Cameron intends to revive her character.

Cameron Talks About Sequel

February 4th, 2010

Last night James Cameron and the cast of Avatar was on CNN’s Larry King Live, where they gave some more information about the upcoming sequel. Cameron said that he’s had technical discussions about advancements to be done in the sequel, and repeated that it depends on the amount the movie makes.

He also told Empire Magazine that he had future storylines mapped out, but nothing concrete. The second movie was more focused, and he said he wants to meet audience expectation and for it to be surprising.

Avatar 2 To Be War Movie, Released in 4 Years?

February 4th, 2010

MarketSaw, the blog that first reported that the sequel would not take place on Pandora, has reportedly received more information about Avatar 2 from an exclusive source.

The site says that they’ve been told that Cameron is preparing to make the sequel, but that work hasn’t officially begun yet. Avatar 2 will be a complete war, but will not take place on Pandora. We expect it will be on another of Polyphemus’ moons, but aren’t sure.

Four years is the timeline being given by the source, which would make sense, especially is Cameron does that small movie in Australia in a few weeks.

What do you think of this new (rumoured) information? We’ll keep you updated on what we’re hearing!

Moore Confirms Conversations on Sequel

One important thing he commented on was the status of his character. Norm’s avatar appeared to have died in the end of the film, but he stayed on Pandora with a few other humans. Moore hinted to MTV that Cameron expects him to be around for the sequel.

Will Grace Return in Avatar 2?

January 19th, 2010

Sigourney Weaver talked to MTV about the Avatar sequel at the Golden Globes last night, and hinted that Grace may return.

Although Grace dies near the end of Avatar, Weaver said it is science fiction, so anything can happen. She also reminded MTV that Grace was connected with Eywa, so she’s still somewhere.

What do you think? Should Grace return, or would it be too far of a stretch even for science fiction?
